Measurement, Modelling, Health and Regulation
Odour remains one of the most complex and community-sensitive challenges in air quality practice.
Odour brings together technical assessment, regulation, planning, operational management, community experience and health-related concern.
Odour Management in Practice is a full-day CASANZ Odour workshop for professionals involved in assessing, interpreting, regulating or managing odour issues in real-world settings.
The workshop will move across the major elements of contemporary odour practice, including modelling, planning, laboratory measurement, field assessment, industry response, health impacts and sensory interpretation. Participants will hear from practitioners working across consulting, regulation, research, industry and health-related odour assessment, with sessions designed to connect technical methods to practical decision making.

Where do we go from here?
Dust management is entering a new phase.
Expectations are shifting, tools are advancing, and the way dust is monitored, mitigated, assessed, communicated and managed continues to evolve.
Across the CASANZ Dust Seminar Series, participants have explored dust from the ground up: what dust is, why it matters, how it is measured and controlled, and how impacts are assessed and understood.
This final workshop brings those themes together and turns the discussion towards future direction, integration and collective action. Through guided reflection, small group discussion and prioritisation activities, air quality professionals and others working across dust management will help identify practical knowledge gaps, emerging challenges and opportunities that can inform the first phase of the new Dust SIG.

Measuring emerging air contaminants from research to regulation
Air measurement for PFAS and emerging contaminants is no longer a single-discipline challenge.
As PFAS and other emerging contaminants move from research and policy concern into monitoring, regulation and consulting practice, practitioners are being asked to make sense of methods, data quality, uncertainty and expectations that are still evolving.
Using PFAS as a practical case study, this workshop will explore the measurement pathway from the people who see it from different angles: those designing sampling programs, operating equipment, analysing samples, assessing quality systems, interpreting results and considering regulatory implications.
Led by the CASANZ Measurement SIG, the session is designed to connect those perspectives, highlight where practice is developing, and identify what is needed to support greater confidence in emerging contaminant air measurement.

Understanding air quality impacts and strengthening exposure
science for informed decision making
Fire smoke is no longer a seasonal anomaly.
Across Australia and New Zealand, communities are increasingly affected by smoke from bushfires, planned burns, hazard reduction activities and winter solid fuel heating. These events create complex air quality, health, regulatory and communication challenges.
This half-day CASANZ conference workshop will explore how smoke exposure is estimated, interpreted and communicated, and how exposure science can support better decision making across policy, regulation, public health and community response.
Developed by the Biomass Burning Special Interest Group, the workshop brings together perspectives from modelling, monitoring, exposure assessment, public health, government response and community communication. It combines technical presentations with discussion, case studies, planned interactive activities and structured synthesis.
